After being without water since November 23rd, Officials at Cité-de-la-Santé Hospital in Laval are facing an outbreak of an antibiotic resistant bacteria
The bacteria itself doesn't cause infections, it carries a gene that is resistant to antibiotics and can make the medications of those who are infected with it useless. For example, if a patient with pneumonia contracts the bacteria, their medications could cease to be effective.
What's worse, according to the 'Journal de Montreal' is that without running water, it has been impossible for patients to use toilets, take baths or showers and attend to their other hygiene needs.
Four people have contracted the bacteria and seven other patients are in isolation. As many as 30 rooms could be affected.
