Provincial police are reporting 2016 was a record year for arrests for driving under the influence of drugs in Quebec.
The Sûreté du Québec's figures show they made 276 arrests from Jan. 1 through Nov. 15, 2016 — compared with 245 for all of 2015.
Back in 2010, only 24 such arrests were made.
The SQ has trained 2,600 of its officers to spot people who are high on marijuana or drugs — up from only three in 2008. Those arrested on suspicion of driving stoned usually get taken in for blood tests to confirm the roadside diagnosis.
Meanwhile, the SQ reports a 10 per cent increase in the number of impaired drivers overall during the holidays.
From Nov. 24 through Jan. 2, the SQ reports 1,715 drivers were arrested at police checkpoints.
