Despite protests from some residents, it looks like the city of Beaconsfield is poised to adopt a bylaw tomorrow banning leaf blowers between June and October.
Beaconsfield sent out a press release six days before tomorrow's council meeting outlining the negative effects of gas-powered leaf blowers, including polluting fine particles and the intense noise.
Mayor Georges Bourelle said he believes many people are not aware of the health hazards.
As for those who are still strongly opposed to the restrictions, Bourelle said they're making a compromise by letting residents use the machines between October and the end of May.
"This will provide them with a lot of time to do it. We think the use of a leaf blower is really not necessary during the summer months," said Bourelle in an interview with CJAD 800.
Bourelle said they want this bylaw for the good of the community.
"What we're trying to do is make our residents aware of the serious threat to their health that is created by leaf blowers," said Bourelle.
Social media and newspaper messages are urging opponents to sign a petition and to go to the council meeting.
