If you have enjoyed skating on the natural ice rink at Beaver Lake you will have to look elsewhere.
A spokesperson for the City of Montreal told le Devoir that due to the drastic fluctuations in temperatures that have become almost a regular occurrence in Montreal during the winter, it has become too difficult to make a safe and solid ice surface.
In 2012, the City began a three year process to make the artificial basin deeper, ultimately making it even harder to make a proper ice surface. Last year the machine used to maintain the ice surface broke through the rink.

The rink at Beaver Lake has been a staple of Montreal winter's since the 1930s.
Officials are hoping to find a new site for a natural rink in the area for next winter, until then skating fans can still enjoy the much smaller refrigerated ice rink.
