The Bell Let's Talk initiative in support of mental health initiatives across the country has announced a donation of $400,000 to the Montreal General Hospital Foundation to acquire a new repetitive Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation device, and a neuronavigator.
The equipment is non-invasive, and is used to treat patients with mood and anxiety disorders for whom medication is not an option, by using a magnetic field focused on specific areas of the brain.
Health minister Gaetan Barrette was on hand for the announcement on Monday. He says while the therapy exists, it will now be made available to more people.
Bell Let's Talk Day is on Jan. 31. For every text, mobile or long distance call, every tweet using the #BellLetsTalk hashtag an every view of the Bell Let's Talk Day video, Bell will donate 5 cents to various mental health initiatives across Canada.
Last year's event raised nearly $6.6 million.
