It is a holiday miracle for a Hampstead family, but there is still a lot of work to do before they can fully enjoy their good fortune.
6 year old Ellie White is battling leukemia for the second time and after an exhaustive search this fall for a bone marrow donor and a massive social media campaign that included a tweet from former Montreal Canadien PK Subban encouraging people to 'Swab for Ellie' , the family has announced they have been lucky enough to find a donor.
White's mother, Amanda Sokoloff tells CTV Montreal that her daughter will have tests next week to see if the cancer is completely gone from her system.
If it is, the transplant can go ahead. If it isn't, the little girl will need to have more chemotherapy.
The family doesn't know any details about the donor, but if the procedure is cleared, the bone marrow is expected to be extracted in mid-January.
Ellie is currently at home with her sister and her new puppy.
