Some Chateauguay residents say garbage collection in their neighbourhood these past couple weeks - really stinks.
"I've been noticing my garbage was not taken," says resident Sandra Luce. "I just have regular household garbage, no construction material, nothing heavy."
It had been 2 weeks in a row that Luce went without garbage collection before she threatened the garbage collection company.
"I told him by 2:00 this afternoon if my garbage was not picked up I was having somebody with a lift bring it to the mayors office and leaving it there" she said.
She says the collection company MRC de Roussillon they told her multiple times that her bin was too heavy to be picked up, but Chateauguay mayor Nathalie Simon says there is no weight limit - the news bins are designed so that the truck hoists the garbage mechanically into the truck.
"It's working on the size of the bin and not the weight of the bin."
The mayor says there have been many complaints recently - as they've changed some rules about which bins residents can use.
"Everytime we make changes it takes a little time for adaptation," says Simon. "I think that before Christmas everything will be settled down."
The best route for residents she says is to keep reporting complaints so the city can confront their garbage collection contractors, and possibly levy fines against them for failing to fulfill their contract.
