Children will be able to vote alongside their parents in today's Montreal election.
Sort of.
They won't be choosing a mayor.
There will be mini ballot boxes at 19 polling locations across the city, including Cote des Neiges, NDG, Pierrefonds-Roxboro and Outremont.
They'll be answering a question.
"In Montreal, what is most important to you?"
There are four choices: arenas, sports centers, and swimming pools, buses, the metro and the train, libraries, recreation centres and concerts or parks, play modules and green spaces.
Alexandre René is with the office of the Director General of Elections.
"We want young people to learn and practice democratic values, such as freedom of expression", said René.
The results will be non-binding.
René adds she hopes the same kind of vote will take place at all polling stations for the provincial election in 2018.
Children won't need to be registered or verified on the list of electors.
