It looks like the enough of the snow from earlier in the week will stick around to guarantee Montrealers a white Christmas — and on the day itself we're expecting bright sunshine and seasonal temperatures.
Boxing Day, however, is expected to be a mess.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Montreal area, warning of literally all kinds of mixed precipitation throughout the day on Dec. 26 — snow, ice pellets, freezing rain and straight rain as the temperature hovers around the freezing mark.
The forecast, as it stands on Friday afternoon, calls for snow to develop on Monday morning in western Quebec — which will change over to ice pellets, freezing rain, and then rain over Montreal and southwestern Quebec as the day goes on.
In central Quebec, it's expected to be a snow event, with significant snowfall amounts expected.
All of this could change, of course, between now and then — the weather office is urging people in the affected areas to continue to monitor alerts and forecasts.
The Christmas Day forecast for Montreal calls for bright sunshine and pleasant conditions — a seasonal high of -4. The low will dip to -11 on Christmas night before the storm system moves in.
