Surprised? Quebecers are jumping at the opportunity to purchase a custom vanity license plate.
We knew that there was an enthusiasm about that, said Mario Vaillancourt, spokesperson for the SAAQ. “Many people tried to go on the site on Friday morning and unfortunately we had some technical problems.”
The demand was so high on Friday when the service launched, the SAAQ had to halt reservations until Monday morning. But, after a weekend of repairs, the website is back up and running
“Everything is going well,” Vaillancourt said in a phone interview with CJAD 800. “People are able again to make transactions to have those plates.”
According to Vaillancourt, almost 6,000 plates have already been reserved, but, instead of having their requests approved, many are being rejected.
If for years you've dreaming of rocking a custom ‘Hulk’ license plate, check your blood pressure.
“You cannot use a word that identifies a trademark,” Vaillancourt said. The SAAQ has been rejecting applications left right and center over trademark violations.
“We encourage people to go to the trademarks database,” he said. There, you can check to make sure your idea won’t raise a red flag.
