In a few years, the site where you'll find the old Montreal Children's Hospital will be unrecognizable.
Developers unveiled ambitious $400 million plans to demolish the long-vacated hospital and transform the space into a housing, business and community hub.
There'll be 1400 condos (600), rental units (640) and social housing (160); 600 underground parking spots; a 250 room hotel; a community centre with a library and performance venue; shops; office space; and a new park. The project includes six towers of 20 to 32 storeys. The seventh building will be the old nursing residence that'll be renovated and have a new vocation. A school is also possible.
If Montreal city council approves the project next week, public consultations begin early next year. If all goes well, demolition should begin this summer with the first tower, social housing and the community centre built by the end of next year.
Devimco is behind the project with help from the residential arm of the FTQ and Fiera Private Lending.
