Quebec premier Philippe Couillard says doctors will have to negotiate directly with health minister Gaetan Barrette over reinstating medical accessory fees.
Couillard says it's not up to them who they get to talk with, after rejecting the Quebec Federation of Medical Specialists' request to negotiate with Treasury Board president Pierre Moreau. Doctors say it is unacceptable that the government rushed to ban the fees without negotiating with them beforehand.
As of Thursday, doctors will no longer be able to charge for a variety of services that are covered by Medicare, including vaccinations. That means patients will have to get those services at either a hospital or a CLSC.
