EXO, the regional transit authority, wants to get its clients on-line, at all times, and has issued a call for tenders for a Wi-Fi network study.
Officials want to see if it is feasible to be able to offer Wi-Fi connections in EXO regional commuter stations, trains and buses.
The Metro newspaper says potential suppliers will have to assess the economic, technical and legal aspects of such an undertaking as well as comparing existing Wi-Fi networks at other transit companies.
Currently the STM has a cellular network available on the Blue, Yellow and Orange Metro lines and is considering a Wi-Fi system for buses.
Longueuil transit is currently studying the issue and expects a report in the spring, while in Laval officials say they are open to the idea, there is currently nothing in the works.
