The Port of Montreal has welcomed its first ocean-going vessel of 2018.
"[The Ottawa Express] docked late afternoon at Berth 77 at Cast Terminal operated by Montreal Gateway Terminals Partnership, after braving the freezing weather of this beginning of the year," the Montreal Port Authority said in a statement.
The container ship left the Port of Liverpool in England on Dec. 21.
Its captain, Rakesh Kumar, will be presented the Gold-Headed Cane in a ceremony on Wednesday.
The trophy has been awarded each year for the past 179 years to the first ocean-going vessel to reach the port of Montreal without a stopover.
