Francesco Molinari has won the British Open at Carnoustie Golf Links in Scotland, breaking the American stranglehold on golf's major championships, with a U.S. golfer having won the previous five.
It is his first win at a major and the first by an Italian.
He shot a bogey-free, 2 under 69 to finsh 8-under 276.
The 35-year-old's first PGA Tour victory came at the Quicken Loans National earlier this month.
The win caps a stunning stretch for the 15th-ranked Molinari.
Rory McIlroy, Justin Rose, Xander Schauffele and Kevin Kisner finished in a tie for second place at the British Open, two shots behind Molinari.
Molinari emerged from a crowded pack, including Tiger Woods in a wild final round at Carnoustie.
