As of 11 p.m. nearly 50,000 homes or businesses across Quebec were without power, due to freezing rain downing branches on power lines, according to Hydro-Quebec.
While the island of Montreal was spared the worst of the outages, there were still 620 homes or businesses in Beaconsfield off the grid Tuesday night, with power expected to be restored by 12:30 a.m.
Across the St-Lawrence, over 1,300 homes in Hudson are in the dark as of 11 p.m. Tuesday, with no estimate for when electricity will be restored.
North of the city, past Laval, some of the worst outages are being reported. Over 3,000 homes and businesses went dark in Mirabel following the rain Jan. 3, and nearby in Saint-Therese another 2,600 were also without power.
No estimates for restoring power were available for either area, though Hydro-Quebec has issued a warning about the outages saying "we apologize for any inconvenience."
The freezing rain also made for slippery conditions on the roads for motorists and led to flight delays at Trudeau International Airport for travelers.
