There were a lot of firefighters in Lachine late Friday, about 120 of them.
The Montreal fire department said a 5-alarm fire on 12th avenue and Notre Dame originally involving a residential-commercial building was eventually brought under control.
"The fire started in the back of the building, it was two floors and it spread to four other buildings around it. There were evacuations done by the firefighters and by the residents of these buildings", said Bruno Ruscio, fire operations chief.
He added four of the buildings are probably a total loss.
All the buildings were residential-commercial structures.
Two females suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
About a dozen people were forecd out, but, added Ruscio, were taken care of by the Red Cross.
The cause of the fire was not known.
