On the eve of the Canadiens' first game of their longest road trip of the season, the team announced defenceman Shea Weber was being "shut down" because of a recurring foot injury.

That means he's being sent back to Montreal to have his injury reevaluated.

He didn't skate with the team in Vancouver on Monday morning, and coach Claude Julien says the problem had been getting better, but recently flared up again.

For the moment, there are no plans for the team to recall a defenceman from the Laval Rocket to replace Weber for their game in Vancouver on Tuesday night.
