The Canadiens' Brendan Gallagher will be out of action for the next two months.
The forward has undergone surgery on his left hand.
According to the team, it was fractured when he was hit by a slapshot from teammate Shea Weber.
Gallagher hurt the same hand in November, 2015 when he got in the way of a shot by Islanders defenceman Johny Boychuk, although the team said the same fingers were not involved this time around.
Weber has a history of injuring more than a dozen other players with his slapshot, including his own teammmates.
Weber struck captain Max Pacioretty's foot during a practice the day before Gallagher was hurt during a game,
