A less than cooperative patient not only put up a fight with paramedics, but allegedly took an ambulance for a bit of a joyride.
On Tuesday at about 11:00 P.M. Urgences-Santé paramedics were called to the corners of St-Antoine and Walker in Little Burgundy to help a woman who appeared to be intoxicated.
While transporting her to hospital she became agitated and aggressive, even attempting to hit the paramedic riding in the back of the ambulance.
As is protocol in cases involving a disturbed patient, the driver pulled over and exited the vehicle. His partner left the ambulance and called police for backup.
However, the keys were still in the ignition.
Urgences-Santé spokesperson François Labelle said the woman then freed herself from the stretcher, made her way to the front of the ambulance and into the driver seat and then sped off.
Her time behind the wheel didn't last long, only driving 1.5 kilometres before ending up at the Vendome Metro station, where she was arrested by police.
While not the longest joyride, the woman allegedly struck several vehicles while driving away.
No one was hurt.
Montreal police did not say what, if any, charges the woman would face.
