Quebec's Crown prosecutor's office has confirmed that it will pursue charges against disgraced Just for Laughs founder Gilbert Rozon.
In a statement released Wednesday morning, the Crown announced that it had examined the evidence in a total of 14 cases, but will only charge Rozon with sexual assault and indecent assault in connection with an incident which dates back to 1979.
More than a dozen women had accused Rozon of sexual misconduct over a 34-year period between 1982 and 2016 — which roughly coincides with the time he reigned supreme as the boss of Montreal's Just for Laughs festival.
He stepped down from that position in 2017 as the misconduct allegations mounted.
Rozon, meanwhile, is still facing a class action lawsuit in civil court brought by a group of 20 women calling themselves 'Les Courageuses' — or, 'the courageous ones'.
The group is seeking at least $10 million in punitive damages, and hundreds of thousands more in moral damages and interest.
