The survey by kanetix.ca found that on average a Montreal motorist will pay $ 756 a year to insure a vehicle compared to $ 616 in any other major city in the province.
The company says it used a profile of a typical 35 year old with an excellent driving record who owns a 2014 Honda Civic.
The same policy would have cost a resident of Repentigny $ 593 while a motorist in Mirabel would pay $ 556.
The company says along with population size, the number of claims made in a region are factors in setting insurance rates.
