Ethics experts say Montreal mayor Denis Coderre should have declared the value of Impact soccer tickets he received free of charge last year.
La Presse has determined that Coderre did not disclose receipt of the six tickets to the city clerk, something the ethics experts say he should have done, given that together the tickets were worth more than the $200 ceiling on gifts to politicians. Each ticket cost $89 and was provided to Coderre by the Impact at no charge to him.
Coderre says he kept the tickets off the books because he attended the matches not for pleasure, but on business.
He says he went to all three games as a representative of the city, not as a private citizen. The first match was the season opener, the second was a celebration of the Olympic Park's 40th anniversary and the third, a play-off game which had the Impact hosting Toronto, was part of a friendly bet with the mayor of Toronto.
