Quebec workers earning minimum wage will get a bit of raise this spring but not as much as many had hoped for.
According to the Journal de Montreal, the CAQ government will bump up the minimum hourly wage by 50 cents, as of May 1.
The move will bring the hourly rate to $12.50, and work out to an average increase of about $500 per year.
Activists, community groups, unions and opposition party Quebec Solidaire have called on the government to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour, a move Premier Francois Legault has said would do more harm to the economy than good.
