The MNA forced out of the Liberal caucus after being accused of sexual assault has let the National Assembly know that he is taking a health leave.
In a letter obtained by La Presse, Gerry Sklavounos wrote that he has been greatly affected by the accusation and was urged by those around him to go to the doctor. He says the physician advised him to take an unspecified amount of time off.
Sklavounos denies the assault allegation and has vowed to defend his reputation. No criminal charges have been laid against him to date. His accuser, Alice Paquet, went to police in Quebec City this week to re-start the investigation she had let drop after filing the initial complaint last spring.
Sklavounos is sitting now in the National Assembly as an independent. He represents the Montreal riding of Laurier-Dorion.
