2016 was a slightly busier year for Montreal firefighters than the previous year was.
Firefighters answered 131,540 calls across the island in the past year — 4,490 more than in 2015. As insignificant as that might seem, it's the sharpest increase since 2010.
Of that number, 4,204 were considered life-and-death calls, where firefighters were called in to administer emergency first aid.
The busiest fire station in 2015 was Station 65 in the LaSalle borough.
The head of the firefighters' union, Ronald Martin, explains to the Journal de Montréal that they had to deal with more fires that necessitated multiple alarms.
