A Montreal man has done what few other Pokémon Go player in the world have ever done — finish Level 40, and ultimately, finish the game.
The so-called "augmented reality" smartphone game launched over the summer, and quickly became a worldwide phenomenon, with millions of people looking for physically nonexistent cartoon characters.
Montrealer Eric Ranz Boucher has been playing the game for about 12 hours a day for more than two months to attain that level of Poképroficiency.
He told CJAD's Barry Morgan that it wasn't just a game, it was a way to socialize.
"It really isn't that much about Pokémon, even though it is It really is," he says. "It's about the friendships and everything that you make through it."
Large gatherings of seemingly random people looking for Pokémon are a part of the game.
He managed to play 12 hours a day because he had the summer off. Now that he's basically beaten the game, he plans on spending his time focusing on sound engineering.
