The anti-Trump protests spilled over into Montreal today.
Over 100 demonstrators took to the downtown streets during the noon hour to show their discontent and concern over the new president of the U.S. and to show solidarity with protestors in Washington. A band including a tuba and an accordion joined the march. Banners and placards bore messages such as "Tweet Twit" referring to Donald Trump's penchant for tweeting his opinions and "Resist the Far Right."
"There are also several Islamophobic and racist and far right groups right here in Quebec so the idea behind this demo is to start a conversation about the fact that this is not limited to Trump," said Nicole LeBlanc, an organizer with the Resist Trump and the Far-Right Network.
The protest remained relatively peaceful - it began at Jeanne Mance and de Maisonneuve, wended its way to the American consulate where they burned a U.S. flag and an effigy of Trump and it ended inside the Complexe Desjardins.
