The Olympic Stadium's roof is showing more signs of wear and tear — tear, specifically — as it reaches the end of its lifespan.
Radio-Canada reports 677 separate tears have been reported so this year, compared with 496 of them last year.
Since 2007, no less than 7,453 of them have needed repairs.
The Olympic Installations Board is once again suggesting the 20-year-old roof needs to be replaced within the next few years, and that maintenance costs on the roof alone will add up to close to half a million dollars this year.
There's nothing to indicate, however, that the roof poses any kind of danger to the public.
For the moment, there's no indication of when the Couillard government might initiate the process of calling for tenders for a new roof — or if it even plans to replace it at all.
The Radio-Canada report suggests a brand-new fixed roof would cost in the neighborhood of $200 million. A retractable one would be $60 million to $100 million extra.
