The president of the Mount Royal Cemetery has announced that bikes will be banned from the cemetery property as of August 1 because pleas to slow down have gone unheeded.
David Scott says groups of cyclists are using the cemetery roads as a training ground, but their large numbers and high speeds have made it dangerous for people walking around the cemetery.
Scott tells the CBC there was a program in place last summer asking cyclists to slow down, but the request was largely ignored.
Security guards will be posted at both entrances as of August 1 to enforce the ban.
