Next Tuesday will mark the second anniversary of the deadly mass shooting inside a Quebec City mosque that claimed the lives of 6 worshipers and injured 19 others.
And to commemorate this year's anniversary, a multi-faith organization is launching the first ever Muslim Awareness Week in the province. It begins on Friday, and runs for five days, ending next Tuesday — the anniversary of the massacre.
The idea, according to event organizer Ehab Lotayef, is to showcase the humanity of Muslim Quebecers.
"We want to talk to you, we want to be with you, we want you to know us," says organizer Ehab Lotayef. "We want to express our own achievements, our own concerns, our own aspirations as full citizens of Quebec and Canada."
Lotayef added violent intolerance can only exist when ignorance thrives.
Commemorations and cultural celebrations will take place all over the city and province.
