It was a dramatic start to the weekend for about a hundred Verdun residents, as Montreal fire fighters went door-to-door around 7am this morning to evacuate several residential buildings on 6th avenue, near the corner of de Verdun.
The fire quickly grew from two to five-alarms and needed the efforts of more than 125 fire fighters, plus fifty trucks. The fire department says the fire will soon be brought under control.
At least one resident was injured and taken to hospital with non life-threatening injuries. Meanwhile, four Montreal firefighters were injured in a fall, but their injuries were said to be minor.
Fire department spokesperson Luc Robillard said nearly one hundred people had to be evacuated from several nearby buildings.
