One dead, two injured in domestic dispute in Valleyfield

Provincial police are investigating an incident in Salaberry-de-Valleyfield that ended with one woman dead, one man injured and a police officer being shot.
At about 9:30 P.M. Tuesday Sûreté du Québec officers responded to a 9-1-1 call for a domestic dispute at a home on du Sentier St. near Luc-Charette.

As police arrived at the door, a man in his 70s opened fire, hitting an officer at least once.
He was rushed to hospital with serious injuries; he remains in a critical but stable condition.

For the next several hours SQ officers, including S.W.A.T., surrounded the house and were involved in a standoff with the shooter. At about 2:00 A.M. police entered the home and found the the man with undisclosed injuries along with the body of a woman in her 60s.
The man was taken into custody and transported to hospital, he has not been charged. He will meet with investigators soon.
