A young couple from Sainte-Sophie in the Laurentians found out the hard way that Canada's rules governing passports are strict.
Stephanie Sauvageau, her husand and their three-year old daughter went to Trudeau Airport on Monday, looking forward to a sunny vacation in Cuba. But Air Canada refused to let them board their flight because Sauvageau had signed her daughter's passport.
Passport rules are clear, however: parents must never sign for children. Kids under 16 are not obliged to sign themselves - they can leave the signature space blank.
Sauvageau tells the Journal de Montreal that they found out only at the last minute, when they were getting ready to board the airplane.
She says they were surprised to say the least, as they'd travelled to Cuba on the same passport two years ago.
The family is angry that they're not entitled to any compensation for the vacation they were not able to take, which cost them $2,000.
