Photo radars are "here to stay" according to Transport Minister Laurent Lessard.
The Minister was responding to the recent court ruling that said evidence used to give tickets from the photo radar cameras is not admissible because it is based on hearsay.
Judge Serge Cimon ruled that without a real person at the scene, there is no evidence the machine was properly calibrated and there was proper signage in the area. He added that the ruling should be considered a formal notice the system currently in place is insufficient and authorities need to fix it.
Lessard told reporters the cameras were setup to get people to slow down, and have helped improve road safety since being implemented in 2009.
Justice Minister Stéphanie Vallée echoed Lessard's comments, adding the government is reviewing the decision and may file an appeal.
