The borough of Pierrefonds-Roxboro is exploring the possibility of reducing garbage collection from once a week to every two weeks.
The borough is currently conducting a survey on its website and Facebook page to hear what residents think.
The proposed measure would only apply to single-family homes and buildings with fewer than nine units.
Recycling and compost collection would be status quo with pick-ups every week.
In a statement, the borough said picking up garbage every other week would reduce the number of city trucks from its streets that collect and transport the trash.
"Since the implementation of recycling (green bin) and organic waste (brown bin) collections, the content of garbage bags has decreased significantly, justifying less frequent collections of household waste," said the statement.
Garbage collection scheduling has raised a stink most recently in Pointe Claire, which reduced its garbage pick-up to once every two weeks starting in 2015 but brought back weekly collections just for the summer last year.
