Montreal police are investigating the death of a 35-year-old man in Lachine, saying there might be more to his apparent fall in the early hours of New Year's morning than they originally thought.
Initially, police thought the man's death in the early hours of Jan. 1 was caused by an unfortunate fall on a patch of ice.
The call initially came at 4 a.m. that morning about a man lying in the street near a row of parked cars on Provost St. near 26th Ave.
But police are now saying the severity of the man's head injuries are forcing police to re-examine the incident.
“We had some information that was provided investigators that made them believe that there was a possible suspicious death,” said police spokesperson Jean-Pierre Brabant, who also says the man is not known to them.
Police have set up a command post on Provost St., and are looking for anyone who might have seen him falling.
