Yesterday's snow, freezing drizzle and the evening's blowing snow and snow squall warning made for difficult driving conditions overnight.
There were dozens of collisions across the island, including one that forced the closure of all three lanes on the eastbound Highway 40 near Langelier.

At around midnight, a 37-year-old man's car hit a snow plow after it stopped on the Highway because of an early accident that was blocking the road. The man's car appeared to hit a patch of black ice which made him unable to stop his car before impact.
He was taken to hospital and remains in a critical condition.
No other serious injuries were reported.
