The growing demand for childhood dental surgery has prompted some Montreal dentists to push the city to consider adding fluoride to its drinking water.
Dr. Jaime Greenspoon tells CTV she has seen a steady increase in children with such severe dental problems that they require general anesthetic to be treated.
The waiting list for dental surgery in Montreal's pediatric hospitals is close to a year long.
"Definitely over the past few years there is an increase in the number of cavities especially in very young children," said Dr. Greenspoon.
Dentists say there's too much sugar in our food and suggest parents need to better monitor their child's tooth brushing habits.
The city says it has no interest in adding fluoride when only 1 percent of treated water is used for drinking.
