In a first for Quebec, the parliamentary staff for Québec solidaire's MNAs have announced they want to join a union.
TVA reports that the Confédération des syndicats nationaux (CSN) submitted an application on their behalf to the ministry of labour on Tuesday.
The application concerned "all employees working for the parliamentary wing of Québec Solidaire, as well as in the constituency offices of elected Québec solidaire MNAs."
It is unclear exactly how many employees are included in the application's definition, but people working for the party itself do not appear to be included in the unionization application.
QS sent 10 MNAs to the National Assembly in October's provincial election, tying them for third place with the Parti Québécois. Both parties are recognized as official parties in the chamber, despite the official threshold for status being 12 seats.
