A Quebec man has been charged with inciting hatred and uttering threats for allegedly threatening Muslims over social media.
Quebec City police arrested Nicolas Theriault, 46, on Friday, after receiving a tip from the RCMP Integrated National Security Team.
Theriault was arraigned in court on Saturday, charged with inciting hatred and uttering threats.
He was released on $500 bail. Among his conditions for release is a requirement to keep at least 500 metres from any mosque.
Quebec City police did not specify the nature of the threats or on which social media platforms they were made.
More details on the scope of the alleged threats are expected be revealed as investigative documents are made public during court proceedings.
