A 15-year-old Saguenay student is threatening to sic lawyers on his school for punishing students who use cellphones in class by taking them away.
Vincent Duguay has been telling various media including the Journal de Montreal and La Presse about his cease and desist order to the Commission scolaire des Rives-du-Saguenay which oversees his school, école Charles-Gravel de Chicoutimi.
Duguay said he decided to take action after his friend who works on call was fired because his phone was confiscated and he couldn't be reached. Duguay said other friends have had relationship problems because they didn't have their cellphones to contact anyone.
Duguay said while he agrees banning cellphones in class is legitimate and necessary, taking them away is unconstitutional.
Students at the school who are caught using cellphones during class can have them confiscated for 24 hours.
Duguay wants more reasonable punishments in place.
