A Quebec woman is missing in West Africa.
34-year old Edith Blais and a travel companion have disappeared in Burkina Faso.
They haven't communicated with family or friends since December 15th when they posted pictures on facebook.
Blais' sister said the Sherbrooke resident and her Italian friend Luca Tacchetto were travelling when they abruptly stopped communicating with their families.
Melanie Bergeron Blais added the pair was last seen in the city of Bobo-Dioulasso, in the country's southwest, and planned to eventually make their way to Togo, but there is no indication they applied for visas or crossed the border.
She also said there's been no financial activity in her sister's bank account and it's unusual for her to be out of touch with her family for more than a few days.
Global Affairs Canada said it's aware that a Canadian citizen is reported missing in Burkina Faso. Canadian consular officials in the area are in contact with local authorities to gather additional information. Consular assistance is being provided to the family in Canada.
Burkina Faso is known to be a dangerous place for foreigners because of the threat of terrorism.
The Canadian government says people should only travel there if they have to.
