It's not what a first time mom wants to happen during an ultrasound.
A Roxboro woman is accusing a local clinic of shoddy and uncaring service.
Christina Roveto was 21 weeks into her pregnancy and couldn't get an ultrasound appointment at a hospital last month so she opted for Les Services Echo Sources on des Sources Boulevard in Pierrefonds-Roxboro after a positive first visit.
But she said the examination didn't go well, leaving her with a cut and bruises.
"She was really applying so much pressure that I was clenching my fist, like holding back because of how much it was hurting me," said Roveto in an interview with CJAD 800 News.
"It's basically like where they cut you for a cesarean, but a cesarean is about three to four inches and my cut was the length of a ruler."
Roveto said that was followed by a long process and countless phone calls to get the results ending with two cancelled doctor appointments and an inconclusive reading which means she has to get another ultrasound.
"I'm worried if there is something wrong, is it too late, what are the next steps?" said Roveto.
And when she complained to the manager,
"It was as if he completely didn't believe my story and that's what made me upset, why would I make this up?" said Roveto.
"He basically just dismissed all of my complaints and kind of thought I was overexaggerating and that's what became frustrating."
Clinic partner Perveen Rajwans said they can't comment due to patient confidentiality reasons but that Roveto should call them back to address the issue.
"We do take such allegations very seriously and we're always working towards finding a fair resolution for patients and staff involved," said Rajwans, adding they vouch for their staff's professionalism and "we stand by our staff."
A spokesperson for Quebec's health minister said it's up to the Quebec Order of Radiologists to comment. The order did not respond yet to a request for comment.
Roveto said she just wants to move on.
"It just left me feeling really discouraged," said Roveto. "I just wanted people to know so they don't go through the same thing as me."
"I just want my baby to be healthy and that everything is ok."
