Quebec's auto insurance board, the SAAQ, is warning people about a text message phishing scam.
The board says several people have been sent text messages claiming to be from the SAAQ, informing them they could receive some sort of refund from the board by clicking on a link.
If users click on the link, they're taken to a page where they will be asked to furnish confidential information which could potentially be used to steal one's identity.
The SAAQ says the message doesn't come from them, and if you receive it, delete it immediately.
Fraudsters have used the SAAQ's name in at least one other phone scam last fall. The scammers are also known to use other company names, including Hydro-Quebec and Videotron, in similar fashion.
Basically, the golden rule bears repeating here: if something looks fishy, it probably is — especially if it has glaring spelling or grammatical errors ('sur le lient suivant').
