Four different agencies came together Sunday evening searching for a man reported to have gone missing while swimming in the St. Lawrence River near the eastern end of the island.
A witness called 9-1-1 at around 4:00 P.M. after saying they saw a man dive into the water and then quickly call out for help.
Montreal police, firefighters, Longueuil police and the Canadian Coast Guard all joined forces to comb the river near 57th Ave. and Notre-Dame in the Rivière-des-Prairies–Pointe-aux-Trembles borough.
After two hours the search for the man was suspended.
It's not known if the search efforts will continue.
