The 29-year-old second 'suspect' arrested in the Quebec City mosque shooting says he was mistaken for a shooter as he was trying to help some of the victims.
Mohamed Belkhadir, an engineering student originally from Morocco, was released by police earlier today, and told La Presse that Quebec City police were "very nice" to him during his detention.
Belhkadir tells the paper he was trying to administer first aid to one of the injured men when he saw someone with his gun drawn. In the moment, he says he didn't know it was a police officer, so he fled the scene, panicking
He says he attended the prayer service on Sunday night, and then left the building to clear snow from the steps of the cultural centre.
Afterward, he heard gunshots for about 15-20 seconds. He rushed back inside, and then called 9-1-1 before tending to the injured man.
