Five people have been placed in isolation at a north end seniors home because of an outbreak of the flu.
The Journal de Montreal says 17 of the more than 300 residents of the Centre d'hébergement Notre-Dame-de-la Merci are exhibiting flu-like symptoms, but it is not a form of the seasonal flu that is expected to arrive in North America this year.
The National Institute of Public Health says flu-like syndrome is cluster of symptoms including fever, cough, sore throat and muscle pain but it is no less dangerous than the seasonal influenza.
The government's annual influenza vaccination campaign will begin November 1.
