Home owners in the city of Montreal will see their property tax bills go up this year, many of them over the rate of inflation.
The first-ever budget by new mayor Valérie Plante sets out an average property tax increase of 3.3% for residential properties and 3% for non-residential properties.
That includes a hike in the water tax that had been frozen for the past four years.
The 2018 budget sees increases in funding for public transit, roads, water infrastructure, public security and culture and sports.
The budget includes a previously reported extra one million dollars for more building inspectors to crack down on slumlords.
