A Montreal police officer will stand trial after a man died during a drug bust went wrong two years ago.
Christian Gilbert was charged with manslaughter following the death of Bony Jean-Pierre, 46, after the man was shot in the head with a rubber bullet.
Gilbert was a member of the SPVM tactical squad and taking part in a 2016 raid of a Montreal North apartment. During the raid Bony attempted to jump from a balcony, it was in those moments he was shot.
He died several days later in hospital.
Gilbert was arrested in 2017. He pleaded not guilty to the charges.
On Tuesday a Quebec judge ruled that there was enough evidence presented during Gilbert's preliminary hearing, currently under a publication ban, for the trial to move forward.
